Happy Labor Day! I was originally scheduled to be working, but I paid someone to take my days of work (this Flight Attendant gig is strange sometimes...paying someone to work for you?!?!?).
The highlights from August were two Southwest trips, my check-ride at the Guard, landscaping at Tony's house we are trying to sell, and some relaxing time at home. I finally decided on doing subway tile in herringbone pattern for my kitchen back splash. I painted the kitchen, but I don't like the color... which stinks.
August flew by so quickly I can't even believe it's September. I am looking forward to some nice crisp fall days ahead!
I made a 2013 Instagram album from Artifact Uprising and I thoroughly enjoyed looking through it last night when I came home from my trip. Here is what my life looked like via Instagram in August:
Were there any fun or exciting things going on in your life in August?
I've been having lots of fun lately with this new app from A Beatiful Mess called Party Party. You can make the most fun stop-motion videos and .gifs. Sometimes I download fun apps and then forget about them or I don't use them because it takes too long going through and selecting filters and fonts..etc. This app is super easy and quick! I even used it to make a special announcement for my favorite Hair Salon, Neatbeat.
Here are some of my videos using the app:
I then used iMovie to put a couple of these together to make this special announcement for Neatbeat that I mentioned earlier:
2014 has been one CRAZY and INCREDIBLE year so far. I got married in January. Then I got a new job in April! I went to training for the new job in May. Our new counter-tops, sink & faucet were installed while I was in training and in June we picked up my stepdaughter to spend summer vacation with us. It has been a whirlwind of a year and I'm just trying to figure out how to manage everything. Here's a peek of life via my instagram feed.
I was hired by Southwest Airlines to be a Flight Attendant, so yeah.. now I'm a pilot in the military AND a Flight Attendant, it's fun for sure. We've had family visits, trips to museums, homemade donuts, painting closets pink, and a couple lazy saturday's thrown in there. It's hard to believe 2014 is halfway over and I've had some many amazing things happen. I feel so blessed!
I've also been working on a friend's website and I can't wait to launch it. It really makes me want to design a new one for 619 miles (which by the way is no longer the distance between me and Kerry, but hey.. whose counting?!?!).
I hope to have some kitchen renovation updates coming soon. I love the new counter-tops so much that it almost doesn't bother me that nothing else is finished....almost!
Our wedding weekend in Asheville NC was incredible. We had so much fun and enjoyed every minute of the fun with friends and family who came to share in our wonderful day. Tony and I still talk about how fantastic everything turned out. We used StudioWed in Asheville to help select our vendors (their service is FREE) and then we hired a wedding planner for the day of. Brittany from Verge Events helped with the vendors, the rehearsal and helped keep everything on track and worry free for the entire wedding day.
Just recently we received our wedding photos from Oh Darling Photography and I seriously CANNOT stop looking at them. They even surprised us with this video (which I have watched a gazillion times):
They did an amazing job and I'm so so soooo happy with the photos and that video is just so "us".
This post is photo heavy, but I want to send a shout out to all of the amazing professionals that helped make our wedding day so beautiful, carefree, fun and amazing. Also a special shout out to my amigas Kerry & Lisa for helping with all of the decor, you girls rock!
Andrea and I had our makeup done by Wendy Ballance from Blush. She was great and we both loved our makeup and false eyelashes... they make you feel so glamorous!
Andrea's maid of honor dress by LulaKate. Thanks Christy & Laura at Bella Bridesmaid in Raleigh for helping us find the exact dress Andrea wanted. They were super helpful in tracking down another LulaKate sample dress that coordinated for my 13 year old niece.
My dress was purchased at Maggi Bridal in Raleigh and the shopping experience there was great. I had a short, 4 month engagement, which apparently doesn't work so well with most wedding gown designers (esp those large designers that manufacture their gowns in China). However, my gown comes from a small family team who create and produce their gowns in Canada (Mikaella style 1406). Tony bought his suit at Men's Warehouse and his awesome tie was from Nordstrom. Let me just say that you can tell the difference between a nice tie from Nordstrom and a cheapy from Kohls!!!
The ceremony and reception took place in downtown Asheville at On Broadway. Chef Kim & Celine (Celine & Company) were so great to work with and the food was delicious. YUM! I love old buildings and this place was so cool. The vibe of downtown and the proximity to the hotel were just perfect for us.
We picked out five different flavors of cakes from Short Street Cakes without even doing a tasting and they were ALL delicious. I ordered the customized cake toppers from Etsy by ReadyGo. Working with Nadia on the customized toppers was super fun and easy, and Reese even made an appearance. Yes, I love my dog that much. She would have been in the wedding if we could have worked it logistically to get her back to the hotel after the ceremony.
ahhhhh... the flowers. They were delivered by Flora to my hotel room in this amazing arrangement. I worked with Tyler at Flora and she was great at helping me figure out what I wanted and keeping within my limited budget. I didn't think that the flowers mattered that much to me... until I saw them. I mean seriously, aren't they stunning?!
Flora used my mason jars and I dipped over 100 pine cones in paint that they placed with the arrangements. The dipped pine cones were easily the most time consuming DIY of the wedding. I quickly realized why they were going to charge so much to do it for me.
The Business ROCKED it out. They made the reception so much fun. People were definitely on the dance floor all night. Their energy and their talent were appreciated by ALL of our guests. Every single person remarked on how great they were.
A few other places deserve shout-outs that I don't have photos for. We spent the weekend at Aloft Asheville Downtown. It is such a fun hotel and really a great place to have as wedding HQ. They are super pet friendly, which Reese appreciated, and don't charge a pet fee! We had a suite with an awesome view and gorgeous light that made getting ready really fun. It was also a great place to spend the wedding night :)
The rehearsal dinner was at Sunny Point Cafe. Yes, we had breakfast for dinner and this place was amazing. Our family and wedding party were talking about the Huevos Rancheros for weeks after... and I can personally that they are more than worthy of all the talk! The staff there were so nice and I can't wait to go back next time we are in town.
We also booked Shutterbooth for our photobooth. They were much more affordable than I had anticipated and it was a huge hit with all of our guests. Tony and I had a blast looking through the album when we returned from our honeymoon. Not only did all of our guests get to take home photo strips, but they created an album at the reception where guest placed copies of the photo strip and wrote us a note.
Thank you again to everyone that helped make the day so lovely and special. Tony and I cannot express how much we enjoyed working with you all!
Things have been crazy since Christmas. I got MARRIED! It was a magical day and so much fun. I had a blast making all kinds of projects for the wedding. I also had amazing friends (Kerry & Lisa), Brittany from Verge Events, and the team at On Broadway to help put together all those projects and make my vision come to life. It looked amazing and I can't wait to see the photos from Oh Darling photography.
In the mean time here's some instagram fun of the past month & a half.
Last week I went out to AZ for a work trip. On the way to AZ I love seeing how the topography changes the farther west we travel. The southeast is so much different than the west, but I love seeing both landscapes.

On our way home we saw lots of serious thunderstorm clouds off in the distance. Thankfully they all stayed clear of out flight path.
Last night was a great night to fly. Winds were calm, skies were blue and I had a fun crew. Last night was one of those nighs where I can't believe I am so lucky to have this job and great people to work with.
I woke up around 7:30am to this ridiculously cute face
After I rolled out of bed I let Reese out and had to hear all the dogs in the kennel behind Andrea's barking. Of course when Reese hears the barking she feels the need to bark too, which I try to stop.... unsuccessfully.
The weather outlook for the day and week ahead. I never was so concerned about the weather until I went through pilot training. I check it all the time, especially if I am flying that day. I was scheduled to fly this night, so I was hoping for nice weather.
Off to work. I had my certification board at 1000am. By 1100 I was officially certified as an aircraft commander. I posted the good news on Facebook and it was awesome to see all the kind comments and like throughout the day. It's a big step in my career and I'm super pumped about it and the challenges that it will bring.
Since I wasn't flying until later that night I left work after my certification board and stopped by the grocery to pick up some essentials. Check out the new home magazine... I'm kinda obsessed with magazines.... especially home ones.
The weather was nice so Reese and I took a walk around the neighborhood.
I also squeezed in a little bit of Pinterest browsing. There are sooo many cool and fun things on pinterest. I get overwhelmed every now and then, but I do really love it.
I eventually had to get back to work for my night flight. I went in a little early to fit in a little study time.
My office is pretty awesome. I love my job.
We had to come back a little early and I was able to see the sunset over the airplanes. I was headed home by 9:15.
After I made it home I worked a little bit on a Photoshop class I'm taking online. I put a re-finished coffee table in Andrea's living room to go with her new couch. I forgot to take a photo, but I'll have one up later. I paid $5 for this great solid wood coffee table in NC and then brought it up to Andrea. I was so happy that it fit perfectly!
I didn't have a set time to be at work on Friday so I stayed up a little late. I love setting the alarm for 8am, even though I almost always wake up before then.
Ali has been doing the Day In The Life each month. I don't know if I'll keep it up for each month, but I do think it is fun to do every now and then. I wish I took a few more photos, but I'd say this is a pretty good snapshot of my life, even though my schedule changes everyday.
