A lovely spring saturday

This past weekend was absolutely gorgeous. The sky was blue, the temperature was and I was itching to get out and explore. I was tired from a week of 4am wake-ups, but I couldn't sit around in my room all day and I really needed a break from studying.

Despite being in Little Rock AR since March, I haven't spent many of my weekends here, so I haven't been out in the local area much. With the weather so beautiful on Saturday I knew I wanted to get out and do some more photography practice while I still had Amy's DSLR. I thought that since it was spring a botanical garden would be the perfect place to visit. Thanks to google I discovered Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs AR. It was a quick hour drive and not only was there a beautiful garden, but there was also an incredible chapel nestled into the wooded landscape. I love architecture, so this was an added bonus to all the beautiful flowers.

I ended the day on the river in Little Rock having dinner with some co-workers/friends. It was a very enjoyable day.

hello!

I am back from my blogging break! Schew... that last paper was KILLER! Getting back into the groove of school has been a bit more challenging than I thought. What I've found even more difficult is getting my brain back into analytical thinking and paper writing mode. For this last paper I had to do fieldwork, take photos, do background research and then write an analysis of my field work on a topic that no one has written on before. It was a major challenge. I did love it though... total nerd, I know. I just hope my professor loves it as much.

I basically looked at the backside of small-town Main Street and analyzed the organization and emphasis placed on the backside. EVERYONE looks at the front of the buildings and looks at that architecture, but no one pays attention to the back. So I went out about 20 miles from home and checked out a small town Main Street for myself.

I know this is a departure from sewing, craftng, decorating and DIY-ing but if I can indulge you in a couple photos of what I found to be interesting buildings... photos of the backs of the buildings, of course.

School isn't over and there are more crazy intense projects to come, but I hope to be back to regular blogging since I have some fun projects up my sleeve that I totally want to share.

running in San Antonio

I love my job. I really am blessed to have a job that both pays well and is enjoyable. Granted I don't love being deployed for months at a time, but there are trips like this one that help make up for the deployments to sucky places. I'm in San Antonio right now enjoying some nice warm weather and it has made me realize that I am officially ready for spring to start in KY!!! Today I had the chance to go for a run around downtown and through the historic King William neighborhood. We are staying at the fabulous Fairmount hotel right in the middle of downtown. There is a dog that lives at the hotel, which I (as a dog lover) think is THE coolest. I had the privilege of taking ol Luke on a nice walk through Hemisfair park after my run.

San Antonio is a cool city. I really enjoyed the walk through the neighborhood with so many awesome homes to see. Setting off on a run is a nice way to see a city. I wasn't worried about getting lost because I did have my iPhone handy. How do you like to explore a new city?

I'll have to get out again tomorrow, but not until after the UK game.  GO CATS!!

old meets new

Historic architecture meets modern architecture... Bucharest style.

I've always found this type of historic preservation to be quite interesting. I'm not sure what purists would think, but I find it to be an unique alternative to just wiping out the historic structure. What do you think? Good or bad historic preservation?
