As it is with owning a home, there are unplanned costs that always seem to pop up! I've been a homeowner for 4 months now and I have had my fair share. With unplanned costs creeping into my home renovation budget, I have been brainstorming ways to cut costs. The flooring that I wanted for the entryway and extending into the kitchen is gonna cost me over $2,000... YIKES!
It is a vinyl fiberfloor that has a matt textured finish that looks just like slate and has a lifetime warranty. My friend that owns a Dog Hotel (The Highland Dog) has it in the hotel's kitchen and I thought it was real at first. What I also liked about it was that my dog, Reese, had ZERO issues walking across the floor. And Reese.... well she has issues with certain types of floors. Remember this video where she walks backwards on the laminate floor?

Yeah.. she does that on any floor that she deems "slippery". Some people might think that it is weird to base my flooring purchase on my dog's preferences, but I say why not?! You can have a good looking floor that your furry friend can walk on too.I'm still trying to figure out how I can have the floor that I like for a budget I can afford, but in the meantime I have been brainstorming ways to get a good looking floor without breaking the bank. My brainstorming lead me to painted floors. The entryway is a wood floor and the kitchen is vinyl.
I figure for minimum cash I can paint the floors as a way to update the space. My only concern is how it will hold up to Reese's paws. I know that I would use floor paint and that it's meant to be walked on, but I still am not sure how it would hold up in the long run. Of course if it doesn't work out I can always cover it up with new floors.
For inspiration I went to my Pinterest boards! After looking at some I had pinned previously and adding some new ideas into the mix, here are my top picks for a painted floor:

There were several other images that I found, but despite my best efforts I couldn't locate the orignal sources, so I didn't feel comfortable reposting them. I'm pretty inspired by these and I am ready to bust out some paint brushes and stencils and get to work!
