I finally began renovations on my new house, mi casa nueva, aka casa California. I was pumped to begin and I wanted to start with paint, but there was a little something in the way. WALLPAPER! I wasn't too concerned about the wallpaper removal, I figured we could riout in a day. We started in the hall bathroom and had it all down in a jiffy, even stopping to take silly pictures like this one of me with a wallpaper cape!
The end result was a pile of icky wallpaper and minimal repair work needed on the walls. Feeling confident, we moved into the hallway. Things did not go so well. It was a huge disaster and I spent the rest of my week repairing the damage that the wallpaper removal caused. The entryway and hallway and kitchen both were a complete mess and I was covered in drywall dust for the next week.
I am no professional, so I don't know if my method was the best to repair the walls, but I used premixed drywall mud to patch and skim coat the rough walls. I sanded and re-muddled and areas that still needed it and finally I primed the walls.
It was grueling and not fun work. My hands were sore from the troweling on the mud and sanding after. I did manage to get some paint up on a small space and the little bit of color made me very happy. More to come soon.
