The schools around here were supposed to start on Monday, however we had a pretty intense storm roll through on Sunday that knocked power out all across the city. Since many of the schools didn't have power the first day was delayed until Wednesday. So, on Tuesday I watched Cameron for Andrea. Cam and I were eating some pizza for lunch when we had this funny little conversation
Cam: Ummm.. how come you like to make all kinds of stuff downstairs? [my apt is downstairs]
Me: Well... I like making stuff, I like being creative, I enjoy it
Cam: Sooo... does that mean you are an artist?
Me: Yeah, I guess so. Do you wanna make some art with me today? Make something for your Mom?
Cam: sure...
He then went to his playroom and came back with a pad of construction paper. We didn't end up using the construction paper, but we did make something I think is pretty clever. I have been wanting to do something like this for a while and Tuesday was the perfect day to do some recycling. I gathered up some boxes, mod podge, and some scrapbook papers and we made an organizer for Andrea.
I let Cam pick out some papers in his Mom's favorite colors (blue green he informed me) and then we went to work. He started out very involved in cutting the paper, spreading on the mod podge, but once I wouldn't let him use the exacto he got a little distracted. We were nearly finished by that point and honestly, I was surprised the 7yr old boy lasted as long as he did with this one.
We started out with a cereal box, an oatmeal box, and a cookie box. I used the exacto knife to cut the cookie box down to size. We spread the mod podge all over each box and covered them each with a different patterned paper.
After getting paper on all the boxes we glued them together with the mod podge and then put a couple coats over the entire thing to seal it all in. I gathered up a bunch of mail and papers on the table and some pencils and viola... we had a pretty organizer.
