SCRIPTschool practice

The other day I made a quick playlist, hit play and then began some SCRIPTschool practice. I watched Kal's videos several times (at least twice each) and then got out my supplies. Mixed up some lamp black gouache and a little water and proceeded with the practice exercises.

I kinda made up my own doodles there at the end and I did manage a couple of alphabets. This is super fun and addicting and a super awesome way to zone out the rest of the world. I got really into it. I cannot wait to get back home and do some more.

If you're interested you can still sign up for the class. Kal is a great teacher and she is super inspiring. It is self paced class that runs for a year.

I've been catching up on the gazillion blog posts that I have been to busy to read lately. Being that it is the beginning of September I stumbled across several really pretty and fun desktop calendars. I currently have this one by Oh, Hello Friend on my desktop.

And yes, I realize these aren't calendars (just desktop wallpapers), but maybe you could bust out those photoshop skills and make it into a calendar. That would be pretty cool if you did.

I can't believe that it is only the second week of school and I already feel bogged down and behind! I'm working a bunch still, so that does not help matters. September should be a little easier as I venture off to warmer (though hurricane prone) climates to catch up on sun, sleep, and homework.

Lack of time is also having an impact on my blog reading, however these recent posts definately caught my eye.

Life is a bunch of craziness right now and I'm not the most patient gal in the world, so I'm trying each day to remember this.

worth the splurge?

I was perusing the blog Eat Drink Chic by Amy Moss, and I came across this post about pet portraits.

Loving my Reese-dogg, and loving those paintings, I immediately clicked on over to Kate Pugsley's etsy shop. I was bummed to not see any listings for pet portraits so I sent a message to see if she was still doing the custom portraits. A couple days later she replied that, yes she was, and she had just posted the paintings again in her shop. I clicked over excitedly... and then the cheap side of me emerged. Could I spend that money? The paintings are done in oil and look absolutely amazing. I mean wouldn't Reese look awesome immortalized by the talented Kate?? Decisions, decisions.

So... Kerry and I are pilots. Yep... we are female AND we are pilots... crazy huh?!?! well... some people seem shocked when we tell them. Anywho... it's not that easy to find stylish pilot-type art. This post is inspired by this super cool pilot meerkat that Kerry recently picked up on etsy.

I decided to search for "pilot" in the art category and not surprisingly (because there is some seriously amazing art on etsy) I found quite a few pilot-y art pieces that I'd love to have displayed in my home... and not in an "I-love-me-room".

I've been seeing paintings on book pages more and more lately and I have to say I'm a fan.

I have two black and white photos of the WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots) hanging in my living room. I did my undergrad History research paper on them. It is very cool, and often underrepresented part of our history. This top image is probably the most "iconic" image you'll see if you look up the WASP. I just found the second image and I love it. I love how her hair is blowing and check out her sandals!

toy stories

When I have my own house I'm going to need TONS of wall space. I have a little addiction to prints, funny, pretty, graphic, photographs... I dream of a nice big wall to display all the prints I buy (and ones I see that I want to buy).

I've seen these prints around blogland for a while now, but I stumbled across them again on pinterest and just had to do a little post on them. The artist is Aled Lewis, and he has made a series of prints called "toy stories" that crack me up, no kidding actually chuckling out loud. Here are some of my favorites:

You can purchase prints here and see more of the collection here. I've always been drawn to photos of toys for some reason. Back in college I was inspired by a photography exhibit of miniature hotel room scenes and did my own series of photos using those little green army men. Maybe I'll scan the photos into my computer so I can share them with you guys.

i heart personalized art

I especially love Kal Barteski's personalized artwork. There is something about her art that speaks to me, I just cannot seem to get enough of it. I am a big fan of words of affirmations to others... especially to the little ones in our lives. I ordered these prints a while back and finally got around to putting them in frames. My niece and nephew live in Florida so I don't get to visit as often as I would like, but I still want them to know that their Aunt (Jenn-Jenn) thinks they are AWESOME!
